Who says you have to wear a full face of foundation to even out your complexion. I know not everyone likes the look or feeling of foundation and that’s okay. I don’t always wear a full face of makeup unless I’m doing a look for my instagram or if it’s a special occasion. It’s very important for me to let my skin breathe from time to time. Here are some tips to help you even out your complexion without a full face of makeup.

The first option is a powder. If you are in a hurry and you don’t like a lot of makeup on your face, try a powder. It takes less than a minute to apply. They are great for normal to oily skin types. Make sure you are choosing a foundation powder or a setting powder instead of a translucent powder. Translucent powders don’t offer any sort of coverage to the skin. Keep in mind that if you are choosing to wear just a powder your makeup might not last throughout the day. You will need to keep it in your makeup bag for touch ups. Use a hydrating setting spray over the powder to avoid looking dry and powdery. ** To get maximum coverage out of your powder foundation, use a synthetic buffer foundation brush instead of a big fluffy powder brush.

Second option is a tinted moisturizer. Think of a foundation and moisturizer all in one. Best of both worlds! Great option for people who don’t like the look or feel of a foundation but want their face to look even and hydrated. Tinted moisturizers are great for all skin types especially dry skin. Even though it’s formulated with moisturizing ingredients I still recommend using your regular moisturizer underneath. The tinted moisturizer might not be enough to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. So use a moisturizer best suited for your skin type first before applying the tinted moisturizer.

Third option is face and body foundation. This is actually my favourite option for evening out complexions. This foundation is water based making it a perfect option if you are looking for very natural, and radiant looking skin. It doesn’t feel like I have anything on my face! I love wearing this when I’m going for that makeup no makeup look. I do have to mention that if you have severe hyper-pigmentation or skin prone to acne, this foundation will only provide very light coverage. Also, if you have very oily skin you will need to apply a setting powder over the foundation. This is my go to for normal skin to dry skin, mature skin, and male clients. The best way to apply this foundation is with your fingers, or a synthetic foundation buffer brush. Do not use a sponge. Sponges will soak up all your product.

Fourth option is spot concealing with a foundation or concealer. Spot concealing is an ideal way to even out your complexion without applying the products all over your face. This is great for someone who wants the option of a full or light coverage depending on the occasion. Apply the product only on uneven areas of the face. If you have a pale complexion, apply the foundation or concealer around the nose as well. This area tends to get red. Just make sure you are choosing concealers and foundations that match exactly with your complexion when you are spot concealing.

One last thing I do want to mention is that it’s possible to achieve a light natural coverage using a full coverage foundation all over the face if thats what you already own. Just make sure you are working in thin layers as you apply your makeup, under good lighting.

Hope these tips help! Let me know if you’ve tried any of these tips and products, or if you have discovered any techniques to help even out your complexion without a full face of foundation.
